Family Support Worker

Permanent Full Time:

  • 37.5 hrs/wk (Tuesday – Saturday)
  • Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9 am – 4.30pm
  • Wednesday 12.00pm – 7.30pm


Salary Range:

$21-25/hr dependent upon qualifications and experience

(This position is not eligible for the $6/hr wage enhancement for ECE qualified staff)

Job Description:

As part of a dynamic staff team, the Family Support Worker participates as a team member contributing their ideas, skills and enthusiasm to further the mission of Richmond Family Place.

This position works as a Family Support Worker in the regular drop in programs, to coordinate, implement & deliver family resource programs & supports families through information sharing, referrals and education.


  • Responsible for assisting and supporting the delivery of family resource programs throughout the community of Richmond.
  • Provides family support in the family resource programs including information, education & modelling appropriate behaviour & interactions for caregivers while facilitating age appropriate play between caregivers & children.
  • In conjunction with the staff team develops, coordinates and delivers programs including literacy programs, special events and outdoor play.
  • Provides assessment, referral and one to one support for families as needed.
  • Maintains and develops good working relationships with community partners & agencies.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate statistics and report on all family support programs.
  • Fundraising as determined by Executive Director
  • Attends Richmond Family Place annual events, including, but not limited to:
    • Annual General Meeting (September)
    • Golf Tournament (May)
    • Community Galas/events (various)
  • Covers shifts for other staff members as needed (vacations, sickness etc.)
  • Other duties as required.



  • Early Childhood Education certificate
  • Mandarin/Cantonese speaker preferred
  • Experience working with parents/caregivers & their children birth to twelve years of age & an understanding of child development for this age group.
  • Creative program planner, familiar with open-ended play & proven program planning experience.
  • Ability to create trusting & meaningful relationships with families & their children.
  • Experience working in programs with young children.
  • Experience working in & promoting a multicultural setting.
  • Experience working in community partnerships.
  • Proven working knowledge of community resources & referral processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal & written.
  • Ability to create & maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Flexible & able to multi task.
  • Calm under stress.
  • Takes initiative: sees what needs to be done.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Up to date First Aid & Food Safe certificates & Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have valid drivers license & use of own vehicle. (mileage & extra vehicle insurance for business use, compensated by RFP)
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccinations may be required.
