Parent Education Programs
Richmond Family Place facilitates multiple parent education programs for members.
These programs help parents and caregivers learn about caring for young children with
support from staff, community partners, and other parents. Each program has a specific
focus of discussion, and select programs offer childminding assistance.
Available Programs

Nobody's Perfect
A 6-week program which offers support to parents and caregivers of children aged 0-6, because there are no perfect parents, perfect children, or perfect people. With a trained facilitator, participants explore topics such as child development, safety, health, and behaviour, while also discussing real-life parenting experiences. PDEP: Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting
A 9-week program designed to help parents and caregivers handle conflict with children in a way that teaches children non-violent problem solving and fosters healthy relationships. Over the weeks, participants learn about their child’s developmental journey, from infancy to adolescence. Caregivers are given the opportunity to explore the rights of their child and take the time to reflect upon how children think and feel at the different stages in their lives.
The Peer Support program follows the highly successful Parent Connections program. A video about the Parent Connections can be seen on YouTube.
Parent Connections - Peer Support Training Program
The Parent Connections program is comprised of a 9-week training program, program practicums and ongoing opportunities to participate as a peer mentor at Richmond Family Place.
The 9-week training takes place once a year. Topics covered include family resource program practices, communication skills, volunteering, early childhood development and multiculturalism and diversity. The training is a pre-requisite to practicums and becoming a peer mentor.
