Playdough
1 Cup of salt
2 Cups of flour
4 Teaspoons cream of tartar
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
2 Cups water
Food colouring
- Mix ingredients in saucepan.
- Add colouring.
- Cook on medium heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly until it becomes stiff.
- Empty onto counter.
- Knead into a ball.
- Cover and let cool for 30 minutes.
- Store in an airtight container in refrigerator.
Creative Clay
1 Cup of cornstarch
2 Cups of baking soda
1½ Cups of Water
- In saucepan, stir together cornstarch and baking soda.
- Add water, mixing until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture resembles slightly dry mashed potatoes.
- Turn onto plate, cover with damp cloth and cool.
- Dust counter with corn starch and knead thoroughly until smooth and pliable.
- Store unused clay in an airtight bag or container in cool place up to 2 weeks. Knead before using.
- Roll clay to ¼ inch on wax paper lined surface.
- Cut into shapes. Dry at room temperature turning occassionally (every 24-36hrs).
- When dry, glue on decorations, paint, or colour with crayons or markers.
Slime - Play Putty
Solution A:
1 Cup of water
1 Cup of white glue
10 Drops of food colouring (Tempera paint can also be used)
Tip: Green makes great creepy slime!
Solution B:
11/3 Cup of warm water
4 Teaspoons of borax laundry booster
- Mix Solution 1 together in a medium bowl.
- Mix Solution B together in a second SEPARATE bowl. Stir until the borax is completely dissolved (Keep borax away from your eyes!!)
- Slowly pour solution A into Solution B (do not mix).
- Swirl the slime around in the bowl 4-5 times.
- Life the slime out of the bowl.
- Knead - squishing, folding and pressing the slime for a couple of minutes.
- Slime will last up to 4 months if stored in an airtight bag or container.
Bubble Solution
Prepare your bubble solution two to three days in advance. Save any extra bubble solution to use later.
4½ Cups of water
½ Cup Joy or Dawn dishwashing detergent
½ Cup corn syrup or glycerin (OPTIONAL)
A pinch of sugar
- Combine water, sugar and detergent. Stir well, but do not shake.
- For stronger bubbles, add ½ cup corn syrup or glycerin, or more detergent.
- Experiment with different brands of dishwashing detergent until you find one that works best for you .
